Good day!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my CV and to read this letter of introduction.

I graduated from University of Oregon School of Law with certificates in Ocean & Coastal Law and Environmental & Natural Resources Law, and from Tulane University Law School with my Masters of Law in Admiralty, specializing on those areas where maritime, international law and environmental law intersect.

On completing my degrees, I was hired as Operations Manager by the Transversal Group, a small, privately-held group of companies involved in all aspects of international freight transportation, ranging from charter brokering and steamship agency to freight forwarding, terminal operation and import/export consulting.  All of these are accomplished by a lean staff, which I had significant responsibility to hire, train, direct and evaluate.

The breadth of my responsibilities was recognized formally in December 1997, when I was made a company Vice President.  My responsibilities continued to grow, and with these my experience and knowledge of corporate governance, human resources law and regulation, commercial, real property and landlord and tenant law, as well as the vast field of international trade and transportation.

Working for such a broad-spectrum but minimally staffed firm required me to become a “Jill of all trades” and a master of many.  I became proficient in new skills quickly while earning and retaining the confidence of Transversal’s clients and their customers.  These duties included, but were not limited to:

• Human Resources Management
• Benefits Administration
• Contract Negotiation and Drafting
• Facilities Management
• Project Development, Budgeting, Management and Auditing
• Transportation Logistics
• Steamship Agency Accounting
• Terminal Operations, Freight Staging & Loading, International Transportation
   Documentation
• Letter of Credit Negotiation & Freight Forwarding Documentation
Planning, Budgeting for, Approving Progress Billings for and Post-Completion
   Auditing of Capital Projects
• Maintenance of Corporate Records
• Invoicing for and Oversight of Property Rentals

From the beginning of my employment with the Transversal Group, my employer indicated that maintaining an attorney’s salary in such a small company would be difficult, and in August 2010 I was advised that the economic climate made it impossible for the company to maintain my position.

While my departure from Transversal was startling – if not altogether unexpected, given the economy - I am very excited at the prospect of the new opportunities that await.  I am eager at this point in my career to direct my skills toward the betterment of my community, both locally and at-large.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my capabilities and your company and goals face-to-face.

Thank you, and best regards,
J.P. (Missy) Thompson
